College prep soccer in Montreal — done right

Sport-études, CEGEP, U Sports, NCAA — four pathways, four very different timelines. We've coached teens to all of them. Position-specific training from three former pros, multi-year roadmaps, and the honest assessments that recruiting needs (and that most Montreal academies won't give).

3 former pros
With pro-academy and competitive playing backgrounds — Julian Hughes, Nicola Guerguinov, Eric Koerich
Position-specific
Center backs train differently than wingers. We start by asking the player what they want to be.
Honest assessments
We tell families the truth about target levels — both when we should aim higher and when we shouldn't.

The four pathways

Each pathway has its own timeline, requirements, and culture. Picking the right target is half the work — picking the wrong one wastes 18 months. Here's what each looks like.

Sport-études (Quebec)

Tryouts at age 12-13

Quebec's school-day-integrated training program. Players train during school hours alongside academic classes — the most demanding youth pathway in Quebec.

What it is: Sport-études (recognized program in selected Quebec high schools) lets identified athletes train 5-10 hours per week within their school day. Soccer Sport-études programs run at specific schools with affiliated clubs.

How Footie Elite preps:
  • Technical sharpening 12-18 months before tryout — not a panic two-week tryout-prep camp.
  • Position-specific work (we ask the player what role they want, then build to it) — not generic group training.
  • Tryout-style scrimmages built into small-group session blocks so the kid is comfortable with the assessment format.
  • Honest feedback on what scouts at Sport-études tryouts are actually looking for — based on Julian, Nico, and Eric's pro-academy experience.

CEGEP soccer (Quebec, ages 17-19)

Build the foundation 14-16

Quebec's collegiate level (post-high-school, pre-university). RSEQ Division 1 / Division 2 / Division 3 leagues at CEGEPs across the province.

What it is: CEGEP soccer is competitive but accessible — every CEGEP fields a team, and many take walk-on tryouts in addition to recruited players. RSEQ Division 1 is the most competitive tier.

How Footie Elite preps:
  • Pre-tryout fitness benchmarking and conditioning so a fit kid arrives a fit player.
  • Tactical pattern-recognition work for game IQ — most kids who fail CEGEP tryouts fail on decisions, not technique.
  • Game-film review sessions on request (we have a library of pro and semi-pro game footage to teach reading the field).
  • Connections to coaches at multiple CEGEPs in greater Montreal — we help kids identify the right CEGEP for their game.

U Sports (Canadian university soccer)

Begin pathway-focused training at 15-16

Canadian university soccer (formerly CIS). Most rosters are filled by recruited players from CEGEP / U18 club teams or international transfers.

What it is: U Sports schools recruit primarily from competitive provincial U18 leagues, CEGEP teams, and the elite Canadian club system. Walk-on opportunities exist but are rarer than CEGEP.

How Footie Elite preps:
  • Recruitment-tape assembly: we help build highlight reels with proper match footage.
  • Position-specific pre-camp programs (we'll structure 8-12 weeks pre-tryout for U Sports targets).
  • Connection to scout networks — Julian, Nico, and Eric maintain relationships in Quebec's competitive coaching circles.
  • Honest realism about chances — we don't oversell. If a player isn't a U Sports fit, we'll tell them where they CAN play.

NCAA (US college soccer)

Start the recruitment process at 14-15

Division I, II, and III in the United States. Most demanding non-pro pathway — combines athletic recruitment with academic and standardized-test requirements.

What it is: NCAA recruitment is a multi-year process: ID camps, showcase tournaments, GPA + SAT/ACT requirements, NCAA Eligibility Center registration. Most Canadian players who land NCAA spots played in the Canadian soccer pyramid through their teens.

How Footie Elite preps:
  • Multi-year roadmap — we plan 24-36 months pre-target with families committed to the NCAA pathway.
  • Showcase prep for ID camps — what scouts evaluate, how to play in front of one, what NOT to do.
  • Coordination with Canadian soccer pyramid (we'll recommend competitive clubs for league play to build the resume).
  • Honest scouting reports for parents — NCAA recruitment is expensive and emotional; we provide grounded assessments.

Why parents pick Footie Elite for college prep

The same coach for years, not session-to-session

Big academies rotate coaches. We don't. The coach who builds the tactical pattern with your kid in week 1 is the same coach in week 60. That continuity matters more than any single session does.

Real video review, not for-show video review

We watch game film with the player, not at them. Most teens already know what they did wrong; the value is what they should have seen 2 seconds before. That's a coachable skill — and not many Montreal academies spend the time on it.

We'll tell you no

If your kid isn't an NCAA Division I athlete, we'll say so — early, before you spend $10,000 on showcases. Then we'll tell you where they CAN play (D-II, NAIA, U Sports, CEGEP D-I, club U18). Honest scouting saves families a lot of pain.

Start with a small-group assessment

One session is enough for us to assess where your teen is now, where they could go, and what timeline makes sense. We'll be honest about all three — that's the value.
