Why "Elite" Doesn't Mean Exclusive at Footie Elite

Our name has the word “elite” in it. Our program is built for every kid who's never kicked a ball before. Here's how those two things fit together — and why the structure that makes us elite is exactly what makes us welcoming.

TL;DR

“Elite” describes how we built the program — the structure, the curriculum, the standard every coach is trained against. It doesn't describe who's allowed in. Every Footie Elite session, from a 2-year-old's first time touching a ball to a 13-year-old chasing a competitive pathway, is built around the same three things in the same order: confidence first, joy always, and real soccer learning woven into both. The structure is what makes the joy possible — not what gets in the way of it.

A lot of parents hear "Footie Elite" and assume one of two things. Either it's for kids who are already good — the travel-team, tryout, trophy-chasing crowd. Or it's marketing fluff, an "elite" label slapped on a regular rec program to make it sound fancier than it is.

Neither is true, and we think that confusion is worth clearing up directly.

"Elite" isn't a gate you have to pass through to join us. It's a description of how the program itself is built — the structure behind every session, the standard every coach is trained to, the curriculum that scales from a toddler's first touch to a teenager's tactical development. That structure is what we mean by elite. And it's exactly what makes the program work for a 2-year-old who's never seen a soccer ball, just as much as it works for a 12-year-old eyeing a competitive pathway.

Structure Isn't the Opposite of Fun — It's What Makes the Fun Last

There's a common assumption that a highly structured program must be serious, intense, or only for kids chasing something competitive. We've found the opposite to be true.

A session with no real structure — just a coach, a ball, and good intentions — tends to drift. Some kids dominate the touches, some kids stand around, and the fun runs out by the 20-minute mark because nothing is actually building toward anything. A well-structured session, on the other hand, is what creates the conditions for joy to show up consistently, week after week, for every single kid in the group — not just the naturally talented ones.

Our curriculum is built in stages for exactly this reason: Baby Elite, Grassroots, Foundation Builder, Growth and Development, and Elite Performance. Each stage has its own structure, its own pacing, and its own definition of what a great session looks like. A Baby Elite session has zero formal drills — but it's still deeply structured around keeping a 2-year-old engaged, moving, and smiling for 30 to 40 minutes. That takes more planning, not less.

Confidence First, Then Joy, Then Learning — In That Order, Every Time

Ask any Footie Elite coach what the priority is in a session and you'll get the same answer regardless of which age group they coach: build the kid's confidence first. Make sure they're having fun second. The technical learning happens inside both of those things, not instead of them.

This order matters enormously, especially for a kid who's brand new to the sport. A child who's nervous, self-conscious, or afraid of getting something wrong doesn't absorb technical coaching well — their brain is busy managing the discomfort, not learning the skill. So the first job of every Footie Elite coach, in every single session, is to make a kid feel safe enough to try.

Once a kid feels safe, joy follows naturally — and a kid who's having genuine fun is a kid who's paying attention, taking risks, and absorbing far more than they would in a tense or overly serious environment. The technical learning is real and it's substantial, but it's delivered through play, not despite it.

The Door Is Open at Every Age — Especially the Earliest Ones

Some soccer schools quietly select for talent, even at young ages — the language is welcoming but the program is really built around identifying and fast-tracking the most gifted kids. That's not what Footie Elite does, and it's not what "elite" means in our name.

  • Baby Elite (2–3): No experience needed, ever. This stage exists specifically for kids who've never touched a ball — it's about movement, listening, and first social experiences in a group setting.
  • Grassroots (3–5): Open to every kid regardless of background. Structure increases gently, but the door stays wide open.
  • Foundation Builder (6–8): Genuinely an ideal entry point even if your kid has zero prior experience. This is the golden age for motor learning, which means late starters can catch up fast.
  • Growth & Development (9–12): Welcomes both the kid who's playing for the love of it and the kid pursuing a more competitive path — in the same program, with the same coaching standard.
  • Elite Performance (13+): The highest level of structure and intensity we offer, built for the teens who are ready for it — but still rooted in the same culture of confidence and genuine love for the game.

No tryouts to join Footie Elite. No evaluation that decides whether your kid is "good enough" to start. The only requirement to walk onto our field is wanting to be there.

What "Elite" Actually Refers To

When we say elite, we mean the things parents don't always see at first glance, but feel within the first few sessions:

  • A 6:1 coach-to-player ratio across every single age group, every single session — no exceptions, ever.
  • A curriculum built in coherent stages, so a kid's development actually compounds year over year instead of resetting each season.
  • Coaches trained to a real standard — not just "keep the kids busy," but session structures with real progression, real technical intention, and real attention to each child.
  • A culture, instilled by founders who played at a professional level, where structure exists to serve the kid — not the other way around.

None of that requires a kid to already be talented. It just means that whatever level your kid walks in at, the program around them is built properly.

The kids who get the most out of Footie Elite aren't the ones who showed up already good. They're the ones who showed up curious, stuck with it, and found a coach and a culture that made them want to come back. That's the whole point of building it this way.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to try out or be “good” to join Footie Elite?

No. There are no tryouts and no evaluation to decide whether your child is good enough. The only requirement to walk onto our field is wanting to be there — every program, from Baby Elite (2–3) to Elite Performance (13+), is built to welcome kids at whatever level they start.

What does the “elite” in Footie Elite actually refer to?

It describes how the program is built, not who's allowed in: a 6:1 coach-to-player ratio in every age group and every session, a curriculum built in coherent stages so development compounds year over year, and coaches trained to a real standard by founders who played at a professional level.

Is the program only for competitive or advanced kids?

Not at all. The same session structure works for a 2-year-old touching a ball for the first time and a 12-year-old eyeing a competitive pathway. The order is always the same — confidence first, joy always, and real soccer learning woven into both.

What's the coach-to-player ratio?

6:1 across every single age group, every single session — no exceptions. Small groups are what make individual attention, real touches on the ball, and genuine confidence-building possible.
